Our ambition is for all children to share a meal together. We want our school lunchtimes to be an important part of our curriculum - where children learn about different foods, cultures, and how to eat well - linking to a wider school curriculum with opportunities for connecting science, PSHE, DT, history, geography - even maths and English!
In September 2026, the Government are introducing the new School Food Standards, and we welcome a shift towards more wholesome menus with less processed food, more vegetables, fruit, brown bread and wholegrains; and less fat, salt and sugar. We've been working hard to transition our menus to meet these much higher standards over the year without losing sight of the classic meals kids love.
We want every child to have a strong foundations for a healthy, happy life. So we'll be sharing lots of tips on great swaps for lunchboxes, so that all children are eating food that meets the guidelines for a great childhood diet and food experience.
Our ASSET Arrows are also on a mission to reduce single use plastic in our schools. We know the terrible impact this has on wildlife and biodiversity, and the health of our planet, so we are also asking parents to consider leaving single use plastic and wrappers out of lunchboxes.
It's a lot to ask busy parents - there's so much to do in the mornings and kids can be quite particular about the goodies in their lunch bags! We're here to take some of the weight of that. Eating with peers is a powerful way for children to eat a wider range of foods, so do think about whether a school dinner could be the way forward.
From September 2026 all ASSET schools will be working with Chefs in Schools and School Food Matters to ensure that we raise our game - our ambition is to have the very best school food in Suffolk! Our headteachers and staff are also committed to making school lunches and food education the very best foundation for a lifetime love of food culture and health and wellbeing.
Why not have your child join us for a school dinner? We would love your support.
